The New Haven Green

from Elias Theodore

Many people, me included, often experience the Green as a site of passage.

But whenever I slow down, sit for a moment, take a breath, and appreciate where I am, I’m grounded by the scale and beauty of our city’s center.

Whether you connect to the Green through its rich history, towering elm trees, or as a site of protest, there’s something unmistakably special about it. As the days get warmer this Spring, the Green will further come alive with concerts and demonstrations - show up! The churches are stunning too, inside and out.

I feel so lucky to live in a city with such a large green space at its center. I love hearing live music at the Arts and Ideas Festival, sitting on a bench on the Upper Green on a hot day, or gathering with friends to do a trash cleanup.

The Green IS New Haven to me, its history, its beauty, and its collective energy.
